Encaustic Painting – Fall 2019

Adults I Saturdays, 9:30am-12:30pm I Abington Art Center - Jenkintown, PA

Artist Jasper Johns built the Flag painting from a dynamic surface made up of newspaper dipped in encaustic with snippets of text visible through the wax. Encaustic painting is known as hot wax painting, primarily uses hot beeswax and color pigments. Students will learn how to meld fundamental painting skills with encaustic painting techniques of layering, scraping, transferring, and incising. Using encaustic methods, students will explore many mixed media applications such as etching, sgraffito, masking, drawing, photography, stencils and using organic material. Join the fun of painting with wax!

Painting with Acrylic & Oils – Fall 2019

AGES 12 - 15 I Thursdays, 4:30-6: 00 pm I Abington Art Center - Jenkintown, PA

Do you like Monet, Matisse, Picasso,  or Van Gough’s paintings? The course will take you through the basic skills and processes of acrylic and oil paint.  We will start with simple & fun subject matters such as still life, landscape, animals, reproduction of artist works, and end with self-directed creative topics. With an emphasis on shaping you to think and see like a painter, we learn about compositions, colors mixing, contrast, paint as a material, and surface building. Come ready to see the world in a painter’s view!

Painting and Drawing – Fall 2019

AGES 9-12 I Tuesdays 4:30-6:00 p.m. I Abington Art Center - Jenkintown, PA

Come ready to explore a variety of painting and drawing techniques such as texture making, layering, brushstrokes, grounds, mixed media, collage, and paper mache! The course introduces basic art concepts such as color, line, shape, texture, and value. Students learn to use various drawing, painting, and sculpture materials to make a unique work of art. The course builds skills in fundamental art-making and heightens your creativity.
